After enduring some difficult times, USA have put themselves back on the footballing map in the beginning of the 21st century. The USMNT has clinched several Gold Cup titles over the last years and shone in the recent World Cups as the Americans reached the quarter-finals in 2002 and the last round of 16 in 2010 and 2014.
To maintain this level, USA brought in young talents in their national team over the last months. Kellyn Acosta is one of them. Alongside Jordan Morris (who played the Toulon Tournament two times in 2013 and 2015), the FC Dallas midfielder is one the leaders of this American new generation.
In 2013, Acosta took the part in the Toulon Tournament while we was only 17. At that moment, the American versatile midfielder was already rated as a promising player.
Now, the FC Dallas player is 22 and he has eventually met the expectations. Acosta emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in the Major League Soccer. He has already played 108 league games despite his young age.
His fine performances in the MLS allowed him to make his international debut with the USA senior team on January 2016 during a friendly against Iceland (3-2). Now, Acosta has 14 international caps to his name. He also scored his first goal for his country against Ghana (2-1) on this summer.
After enjoying an astonishing rise over the last years, Acosta seems ready to face new challenges and has opened the door to a move in Europe in the future. “Obviously that’s my dream to play in Europe. I don’t know when that will be, but hopefully when the time comes I’ll be ready”, he said recently to the MLS website.
