Since its creation in 1967, the Festival International Espoirs - Maurice Revello Tournament has seen some of the world's greatest players as well as renowned managers come and go. Around 270 of them have coached national teams during the tournament. Among them, coaches have become friends with the Tournament thanks to their loyalty and their achievements in the competition. Others have known glorious destinies and rich careers before or after their time on the benches of Provence. But they all, without a doubt, keep an imperishable memory of their experience in the South of France.

The likes of Marcelo Bielsa, Gerard Houllier, Cesar Luis Menotti, Jose Pekerman, Carlos Bilardo, Telê Santana, Claude Le Roy and, most recently, Guus Hiddink, have all played in the Maurice Revello Tournament as coaches. All of them have left their mark on the history of the Festival through their playing philosophies and passion for football, whether it was Menotti in 1975, who came to prepare his young Argentinian squad for the 1978 World Cup, won by the Albiceleste side featuring a certain Daniel Passarella, who had been spotted three years earlier on the tournament's turf, or Marcelo Bielsa and his impressive Chile, who had finished, unsurprisingly, as the tournament's best attack. The illustrious Brazilian Santana, Argentina tactician Carlos Bilardo and Claude Le Roy, the doyen of the 'White Wizards', were also on hand... Coaches who have all gone down in history and passed through the Tournament.

Some have sworn allegiance to the Tournament. The champions of the participations are Marc Bourrier, who came nine times between 1983 and 1992 at the head of the French team and Dave Sexton, who coached England eight times between 1985 and 1996. Portugal's Jesualdo Ferreira, who appeared at the tournament five times in the 1990s, and his compatriot Rui Caçador, who coached Portugal on six occasions between 2002 and 2009, are also among the tournament's most successful players. Valentin Nikolaev coached the USSR six times in a row between 1979 and 1984. Mexico's Jesus del Muro, for his part, proved his longevity between his first tournament in 1980 and his fifth and final in ... 2000. Ivan Kopecky (Czechoslovakia and then Czech Republic), Henri Guerin (France) and Jacky Braun (France), who have each made four appearances, are also among the most capped coaches.

In addition to Gérard Houiller, Claude Le Roy and Marc Bourrier, French football has provided many renowned French coaches to the tournament: Gérard Gili, Roger Lemerre, Jean-Marc Guillou, René Girard, Willy Sagnol and many others.

Former international players such as Javier Mascherano, Bernard Diomede Ciro Ferrara, Ümit Davala, Andi Herzog or Uli Stielike have also passed through the benches of the Tournament.

More recently, Gareth Southgate, current England coach, Fousseni Diawara, assistant coach of Mali, and Felix Sanchez Bas, currently in charge of Qatar's 2019 Asian Cup-winning side, have come to play for their country's youth teams at the tournament.
