Rated as the biggest youth talent in United States, a status illustrated notably by her Number 1 position in the NWSL draft in 2020, Sophia Smith is living an astonishing rise.

The 21-year-old forward, who made a strong start to the season in the National Women Soccer League (6 goals scored) with Portland Thorns, has netted her first goal with the United States national team. The Sud Ladies Cup 2018 best player helped the World champions to earn a 8-0 over Paraguay in a friendly on Wednesday as she found the net during the first half.

This first international goal will strengthen the expectations surrounding Sophia Smith. The promising American forward already made the headlines on last August after being heavily praised by her club teammate and women football legend Christine Sinclair. “I told her at halftime against Gotham FC that it’s so much fun playing up top with her. She’s world class, her potential is limitless. I’ve told her that if she keeps at it, she’ll be one of the best forwards in the world in no time.”

Some very powerful words from Sinclair who is the football's all-time top international goalscorer (men and women combined) with 187 goals scored in 304 international cap with the Canada national team.

Only aged 21, Sophia Smith seems destined for a bright future.
