Unbeaten in the league since November, FC Basel were crowned Swiss champions with five games to spare after the 2-1 win over Sion. Walter Samuel, who took part in the Toulon Tournament 1999, played a key role in this success as the former Argentina international (57 capes) has played 15 league games and scored one goal this season.
The 38-year-old will end his career with this title as the former Real Madrid defender has announced he will retire at the end of the current campaign. During his career, Samuel has clinched several titles including six Italian championships. One with AS Roma and five with Inter Milan.
