Presnel Kimpembe’s long wait for a first international cap looks set to end

Presnel Kimpembe, who earned his first France call-up on October 2016, is yet to make his international debut. The Paris Saint-Germain defender made ten appearances on the France bench without playing a single minute.

His wait for a first international cap could end during the upcoming friendlies against Wales (November 10) and Germany (November 14). “In the national team, Presnel is competing with Koscielny, Umtiti and Varane for the centre-back spots. He can earn an international cap. I’d love to offer playing time to everybody. I trust him even if he hasn’t played with Les Bleus until now” Didier Deschamps said on a press conference.

The France head coach has also praised the Toulon Tournament 2015 winner for his performances with PSG as the 22-year-old defender has already started 10 games this season with the French champions. “At PSG, Presnel faces a strong competition from two Brazilian internationals, Thiago Silva and Marquiinhos. He has shown very often his calm and his composure on the field”.

Kimpembe is currently in fine form and his patience could be rewarded very soon…
