After a six-year absence, Turkey will take part in the upcoming edition of the Toulon Tournament which will be held from 26th May to 9th June. Drawn against Japan (28th May), Canada (31st May) and Portugal (3rd June), the Turkish players will try to repeat the same performance made by theirs predecessors who reached the Toulon Tournament final in 2012.

To reach this goal, the Turkish federation is monitoring youngsters who are featuring in the European leagues in order to see which of them could be selected for the Festival. In February, Can Günal, the Turkey’s Team Manager, said us that some youngsters “playing notably in Germany, Portugal as well as in France should be there on May”.

The former Turkey international Alpay Özalan, who is now in charge of the Turkey U21 national team, has confirmed few weeks later to the local medias that the federation is currently negotiating with some youngsters playing in Europe.

These words have been translated into action as several youngsters playing in Europe have been selected for the upcoming games of the Turkey U21 national team.

Merih Demiral (Sporting Portugal) as well as Yusuf Sari (Olympique de Marseille) have been called up to the Turkish national team. Both are born in 1998 and are in line for a Toulon Tournament call-up on May.
