A number of promising players took part in the Toulon Tournament 2013 : Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco, André Gomes, Rafinha, Layvin Kurzawa as well as Wilfred Ndidi. An unknown Nigerian who was only 16 at that moment.
Four years later, Ndidi made a name for himself in Europe as he moved from Genk to Leicester City this week : the Premier League side has announced the arrival of the 20-year-old defensive midfielder in a five-and-half-year deal (subject to a work permit) for a reported €18M.
This transfer caps a wonderful rise for the Nigeria international (6 caps), who came in Europe just two years ago. Ndidi has joined the Belgian side Genk in 2015 after a successful trial when he was only 18. Despite his young age, the Nigerian midfielder forced his way into the Genk first team and eventually played 83 games in all competitions for Genk in two years.
Brilliant with Genk, Ndidi is facing a new challenge with Leicester City in one of the best leagues in the world.
