Leo Messi, Neymar, Arturo Vidal, Douglas Costa… all these famous players took part in the South American Championship U20 when they were younger. International tournaments can be breakthrough occasions for young players and the Sudamericano U20 is obviously one of these competitions.
This year, the tournament will be held from January 18 to February 11 and this edition is packed with talent just waiting to burst onto the international scene.
We can talk about the Brazilian midfielder David Neres (Sao Paulo) as well as his fellow countryman Felipe Vizeu (Flamengo) who both distinguished themselves in the Brazlian Serie A last year. Meanwhile, Argentina can count on his defender Nahuel Molina (Boca Juniors) while Chile will be led by Jeisson Vargas (Estudiantes), a 19-year-old forward who has been called-up to the senior team few months ago !
We’ll also take a closer look at the performances of the Uruguayan midfielder Rodrigo Betancur (Boca Juniors) and Carlos Eccehomo Cuesta, a 17-year Colombian defender who is shining with Atletico Nacional, the Copa Libertadores winners. And not forgetting the Paraguayan right-back Rodi Ferreira (Olimpia) who took part in the Toulon Tournament 2016 last summer.
The ten participating teams will be divided into two groups of five. The three top teams of each group will qualiy for the final round.
