Sudamericano U20 : Argentina outclassed by Uruguay, Colombia came from behind to snatch draw

The South American Championship U20, called the Sudamericano U20, is currently taking place at Ecuador (18 January-11 February). During the Matchday 1 of the final round, Argentina were outclassed by Uruguay while Colombia secured a goal thanks to a late penalty.

Final group : Uruguay 3 pts, Brazil 1 pt, Ecuador 1 pt, Colombia 1 pt, Venezuela 1 pt, Argentina 0 pt.

The first game of this final round between Colombia and Venezuela ended in a 1-1 draw. The Venezuelan goalkeeper Wuilker Farinez made an incredible save in the first half. Few minutes later, Venezuela netted the opener thanks to Yeferson Soteldo who fired a perfect free-kick into the top corner. Finally, Colombia were awarded a contentious penalty with six minutes remaining and leveled the scoring by the 17-year-old Juan Hernandez who converted his shot.

The second game of the group was spectacular as Uruguay clinched a comfortable 3-0 win over Argentina. Reduced to 10 men after the Tomas Belmonte’s sending-off, the Albiceleste was totally outclassed. Nicolas De La Cruz distinguished himself as he opened the scoring with a terrific shot from 35 yards. Then, his teammate Mathias Olivera doubled the lead from close range. Uruguay added another goal in the second half as the captain Rodrigo Amaral netted his 4th goal in this competition.

Despite a two-goal advantage, Brazil shared the spoils with Ecuador (2-2). The Corinthians defender Guilherme Arana netted the opener after 15 minutes. Ten minutes later, Maycon netted the second goal of the Seleçao after a brilliant pass from Matheus Savio. However, Ecuador came from behind to earn a draw. The hosts were awarded two penalties in the second half, both converted by Renny Jaramillo and Pervis Estupinan.
