Costa Rica sealed their place in next year's World Cup with a 1-1 draw clinched on this Sunday against Honduras. Quarter-finalists in 2014, Los Ticos will play their second World Cup in a row.

Unless something unexpected happens, Ronald Matarrita will take the plane for Russia in the next summer. The 23-year-old left-back, who played the Toulon Tournament in 2015, has cemented his place in the Costa Rica squad over the last months.

The Costa Rica international (18 caps, 2 goals), who just recovered from a broken toe, was an unused substitute against Honduras on this Sunday but he played a key role in this qualifying campaign as he played nine games and scored against Panama (3-1) and Trinidad-and-Tobago (2-0).

Before potentially playing the first World Cup of his career, Ronald Matarrita will face a big challenge in the upcoming weeks : taking part in the Major League Soccer play-offs with New York City FC.
