Achraf Bencharki, who finished joint top-scorer of the Toulon Tournament 2015, has emerged as one of the Moroccan League’s most exciting players two years after impressing in the south of France with his national team.
The 23-year-old forward has stepped up to the next level since joining Wydad Casablanca in 2016 from MAS Fes. After clinching the Moroccan League title last year with WAC, Bencharki has now the opportunity to add another major trophy to his collection : the African Champion’s League.
This week-end, the Moroccan club has secured his spot for the final of the competition after beating USM Alger. Held to a 0-0 draw in the first leg played in Algeria, Wydad Casablanca have then won the second leg (3-1) front of their fans. Bencharki produced a masterclass performance as he delivered one assist and scored two goals in this second leg.
The Moroccan forward has already netted four times in the Champions League this season and will try to distinguish himself again in the final (October 28 and November 4) against the eight-times Champions League winners Al Ahly.
That’s obviously a big challenge for Bencharki and Wydad Casablanca who are waiting to lift the trophy since… 1992.
