England clinched their first ever World Cup U17 title

The Young Three Lions have beaten Spain (5-2) in this all-European final at Kolkata (India). Impressive throughout the competition, the English players stole the show again.

England have been crowned World Cup U17 champions as they clinched a 5-2 win over Spain in a thrilling final played front of 66 684 people at Kolkata.

The English players suffered a nightmare start as Spain had a two-goal-advantage after the half-hour mark thanks to a brace netted by the FC Barcelona youngster Sergio Gomez.

However, England reduced the deficit quickly thanks to the 8th goal scored by Rhian Brewster in this competition. Then, Morgan Gibbs-White levelled the scores in the second half and the Young Three Lions eventually took the lead thanks to the Manchester City wonderkid Phil Foden. In the last minutes of the game, England secured their win thanks to a close-range shot scored by Marc Guehi and the second goal of the day netted by Phil Foden.

Led by Rhian Brewster (top scorer of the competition) and Phil Foden (named best player of the tournament), England have scored 23 goals in this World Cup !

Earlier in the day, Brazil won the third-place playoff against Mali thanks to goals from Alan and Yuri.
