In only few months, Omar Govea has enjoyed an astonishing rise. After discovering the European football during two years with the FC Porto reserve team, the 21-year-old Mexican midfielder has decided to join the Belgian outfit Royal Excel Mouscron this summer in order to earn regular first-team football.
That was obviously a good choice from Govea who is currently shining in the Jupiler League. This season, the San Luis Potosi-born has netted 3 goals and delivered 1 assist in 13 league games.
His performances in the Belgian top-flight caught the eye of the Mexico head coach Juan Carlos Osorio as Govea has been handed his first ever Mexico call-up. The Mouscron player will probably have the opportunity to make his international debut during the upcoming friendlies against Belgium (November 10) and Poland (November 13).
“Being selected in the Mexico senior squad is in my head. It’s a dream. I have one year to prepare myself and to show my qualities. I want to play the World Cup”, said the young Mexican few days ago to El Universal Deportes.
His dream comes true. Govea, who wasn’t represented his country since the Toulon Tournament 2016, has a big opportunity to prove his worth with “El Tri”…
