Fernandes, Pezzella, Pickford : a number of former Toulon Tournament players burst onto the international scene

Several former Toulon Tournament players earned their first international cap over the last days.

German Pezzella (Argentina, 2009) : The 26-year-old centre-back was rewarded for his performances with the Serie A side Fiorentina as he made his international debut during the friendly against Russia (1-0). German Pezzella played the full game alongside Nicolas Otamendi and Javier Mascherano in a back three

Edgar Ié (Portugal, 2013) : The Lille player played his first minutes with the Portugal senior team during the 3-0 win over Saudi Arabia. The 23-year-old defender came off the bench before the hour mark and helped his side to finish the game without conceding a goal.

Lee Chang-Min (South Korea, 2013 & 2014) : The 23-year-old midfielder burst onto the international scene during the friendly played against Colombia (2-1). This first international game caps an astonishing rise from the Jeju United ace who distinguished himself in the Asian Champion’s League this season.

Bruno Fernandes (Portugal, 2014) : Like Edgar Ié, the Sporting Portugal midfielder enjoyed an international debut with his national team against Saudi Arabia (3-0). That’s a fair reward for Fernandes who took the Portuguese League by storm !

Achraf Bencharki (Morocco, 2015) : The African Champion’s League winner has made a debut to remember with his country. The Wydad Casablanca forward came off the bench during the crucial qualifier against Ivory Coast (2-0) and helped Morocco to secure their place at the World Cup for the first time since… 1998 !

Jordan Pickford (England, 2015 & 2016) : The Everton goalkeeper has impressed in his England bow. The 23-year-old distinguished himself against Germany (0-0) with some important saves.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek (England, 2016) : The Crystal Palace midfielder has impressed the observers during the friendly played on this Friday between England and Germany (0-0). The Toulon Tournament 2016 winner was named man of the match on his full international debut.

Falaye Sacko (Mali, 2016) : Some youngsters have been promoted to the Mali senior squad including the Vitoria Guimaraes defender. The latter has played his full international game during the World Cup 2018 qualifier against Gabon (0-0).

David Brooks (England, 2017) : After making a name for himself with England during the Toulon Tournament 2017, the Sheffield United starlet has eventually made his international debut with… Wales ! The 20-year-old midfielder has switched his international allegiance few months ago and made his Wales debut against France (0-3).
