Ben Chilwell stepped up to the next level

“I like his mentality. I think he has the desire to be a top player”, Gareth Southgate said about Ben Chilwell during the Toulon Tournament 2016. Two years later, the 21-year-old Englishman hasn’t turned yet into a top player but he has made significant progress since the title clinched in the south of France with the Young Three Lions

Used as a substitute by Leicester City during the 2016-2017 campaign (12 Premier League games played), the English left-back forced his way into the Foxes starting XI this season : the Milton Keynes-born has already played 19 Premier League games since the start to the season and established himself as the starting left-back over the last weeks, especially since the French coach Claude Puel took charge.

Chilwell has obviously improved his game but the England U21 international needs more consistency across the 90 minutes like illustrated during the 4-1 win over West Bromwich Albion this week-end. The English youngster has been dominated by his opponent during the goal conceded by Leicester in the first half and then he distinguished himself in the second half by providing a beautiful assist.

There are high hopes for Chilwell but the latter needs to improve some aspects of his game in order to meet the expectations.
