Arteaga, Cornelius, Berahino… the Maurice Revello Tournament former players burst onto the international scene

Each international break is the opportunity for several players who took part in the Maurice Revello Tournament to make their international debut. Over the last days, some of them earned their first international cap.

José Javier Abella and Gerardo Arteaga (Mexico)

Like their teammates Diego Lainez and Roberto Alvarado few days earlier, the Santos Laguna duo made their international debut with Mexico during the friendly against United States (0-1) on Wednesday. Abella and Arteaga have played the full game respectively as a right-back and a left-back.

Kévin Denkey (Togo)

The Nîmes Olympique youngster has earned his first cap with Les Eperviers as he replaced the Togolese star Emmanuel Adebayor during the African Cup of Nations 2019 qualifier against Bénin (0-0).

After scoring two goals during the Maurice Revello Tournament 2018, the 17-year-old is continuing his remarkable rise. Next goal ? Making his Ligue 1 debut with Nîmes.

Ben Chilwell (England)

The 21-year-old established himself as a regular starter for Leicester and has also shone with England U21. His consistency has been rewarded by a first international cap with the England senior team during the friendly against Switzerland (1-0). With ten minutes remaining, Gareth Southgate has introduced Ben Chilwell on the pitch of the King Power Stadium. His current club's home ground.

Saido Berahino (Burundi)

After playing for England at the youth level, notably during the Maurice Revello Tournament 2014, the Stoke City forward has decided to represent his birth country Burundi at the senior level.
He netted a goal for his debut and helped Burundi to clinch a 1-1 draw during the African Cup of Nations 2019 qualifier against Gabon.
Burundi have now four points after two games and can dream about qualifying for their first-ever African Cup of Nations…

Derek Cornelius et Jonathan David (Canada)

Canada earned their largest win ever as they hammered US Virgin Islands (8-0) in their CONCACAF Nations League opener. Both Derek Cornelius and Jonathan David have been included in the starting XI. David distinguished himself by scoring a brace.

Hamad Mahmood AlshamsanYusuf Mohamed Hardan, Mohamed Jasim Marhoon (Bahrain)

Bahrain were held to a draw in a friendly by the Chinese team coached by the legendary Marcelo Lippi (0-0). The opportunity for three players who took part in the Maurice Revello Tournament 2017 to make their international debut : Alshamsan, Marhoon and Hardan.
