img

The Asian Championship U19 held in Indonesia ended on this Sunday with a final won by Saudi Arabia against South Korea (2-1). The Taeguk Warriors can regret their slow start.

South Korea – Saudi Arabia : 1-2

The South Koreans had the opportunity to lift the trophy for the thirteenth time in history. Unfortunately for them, the Taeguk Warriors missed this chance. The Saudis took a two-goal-advantage in the first half thanks to Turki Al Ammar and Khalid Al Ghannam.
Enough to allow Saudi Arabia to clinch the title for the first time since 1992 despite the goal scored in the second half by Cho Young-Wook for South Korea.

KEY FACTS :

    • Abdulrasheed Umaru finished as the top scorer with 7 goals. The podium is completed by two players seen at the Maurice Revello Tournament 2018Hashim Ali (Qatar) and Jeon Se-Jin (South Korea) who both netted 5 goals.

    • Turki Al Ammar (Saudi Arabia) was named best player of the tournament.

    • 60 154 have attended to the quarter final between Japan and Indonesia (2-0). It was the largest attendance in this competition since the 1977’s final between Iran and Iraq (100 000 fans).

  • Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Japan, Qatar are qualified for the upcoming U20 World Cup (from 23rd May to 15t June 2019) thanks to their performances at the Asian Championship U19. If the Saudis, South Koreans and the Japanese took part in the last edition of the World Cup held in 2017, this is not the case of the Qataris who made their last appearance at this level in 2015.
