Maurice Revello Tournament Team of the Month for October

img

Each month, we select the TOTM featuring only Maurice Revello Tournament graduates who have shone with their clubs and/or their national teams. Let’s take a look at the players who stole the show in October 2020.

James Pantemis (Impact de Montréal) :

This month may turn out to be a turning point in the 23-year-old goalkeeper’s career. Following the Clément Diop’s absence for personal reasons, Pantemis has been handed his Major League Soccer debut against New England Revolution (2-3). Then, the Maurice Revello Tournament 2018 graduate has started the two next games against Inter Miami and New York City. With some top class saves…

Joao Cancelo (Manchester City) :

Sometimes used on the right side, sometimes on the left side, the Portugal international is shining either way with his club and his national team. By producing a string of strong displays, the 26-year-old fullback cemented his place in the Manchester City starting XI. A relief for Cancelo who struggled last season with the English giants.

Merih Demiral (Juventus) :

Already seen as a key player for the Turkey national team despite his young age, the 22-year-old solid defender is meanwhile forcing his way into the Bianconeri starting XI. Due to the Chiellini and De Ligt injuries, Demiral has started several games in a row with Juventus this month. The only drawback was the red card he got during the Champions League clash against FC Barcelona (0-2).

Cesar Montes (Monterrey) :

Four Liga MX games and four wins for the Rayados Monterrey this month. The 23-year-old centre-back has played a pivotal role in this winning streak. Meanwhile, the Maurice Revello Tournament 2018 runner-up started the two friendlies played and won by Mexico this against both Netherlands (1-0) and Guatemala (3-0). A perfect month !

Ben Chilwell (Chelsea) :

Signed by the Blues from Leicester City this summer, the 23-year-old left-back enjoyed a dream debut with Chelsea as he netted a goal and offered an assist against Crystal Palace (4-0). The Maurice Revello Tournament 2016 winner confirmed then his good form by assisting a goal once again against Southampton (3-3).

Franck Kessie (Milan) :

Leaders of the Serie A, leaders of their Europa League group, the Rossoneri are living a perfect start to the season. The 23-year-old played a key role in this dream debut as he’s one of the most used players by the Milan-based club. That’s why we mentioned previously the Ivory Coast international as one of the players to follow in the Italian top-flight this season…

Diadié Samassekou (Hoffenheim) :

Disturbed by an injury few days following his arrival from Salzbourg, the 24-year-old midfielder struggled last year in the Bundesliga. However, the situation is completely different this season as the Mali international is a regular starter for Hoffenheim. Some interesting displays here, an assist against Red Star Belgrad in Europa League there, showed that the Maurice Revello Tournament 2016 graduate got back to his best.

James Rodriguez (Everton) :

The Maurice Revello Tournament 2011 best player got back to his best, for the greatest happiness of the football fans. Already unstoppable on September, the 29-year-old attacking midfielder impressed again on October : two goals and one assist against Brighton, a strong display during the Merseyside derby against Liverpool capped by an assist as well. Without forgetting some good results earned during the World Cup 2022 qualifiers (win against Venezuela, draw at Chile) with the Colombia national team that he’s captaining.

Jack Grealish (Aston Villa) :

Thanks to his unforgettable performance (three assists and two goals !!) during the historic 7-2 win over Liverpool, the England new boy had to be in our TOTM. Moreover, he produced another man-of-the-match display few days later against Leicester (1-0). The Maurice Revello Tournament 2016 winner is without doubt in the form of his life.

Duvan Zapata (Atalanta) :

The 29-year-old powerful striker is also in the form of his life. Week in week out, the Maurice Revello Tournament 2011 winner remains an unsolvable problem for the opponents. This month, Zapata has scored six goals in all competitions with both Atalanta and Colombia, including a brace against Ajax in the Champions League.

Pedro (Flamengo) :

His transfer to Fiorentina following the Maurice Revello Tournament 2019 won with Brazil was unsuccessful. After coming back in his native country last winter, the 23-year-old recovered his best form and scored seven goals in all competitions on October ! As you have guessed it : with a striker so efficient, Flamengo are currently joint-leaders of the Brazilian league.
