Onaiwu, Sels, Sadilek...the Maurice Revello Tournament graduates burst onto the international scene

Each international break is the opportunity for several players who took part in the Maurice Revello Tournament to make their international debut. Over the last days, some of them earned their first international cap.

Ado Onaiwu (Japan)

The Maurice Revello Tournament 2016 graduate is probably living at 25 the best moment of his career. After impressing on both continental (5 goals in 6 Asian Champions League games in 2020) and national levels (10 goals in 16 J-League in 2021) with Yokohama Marinos, Onaiwu has logically caught the eye of the Japan head coach Hajime Moriyasu. The latter selected him for this international break. The opportunity for the striker to make his Samurai Blue debut in a friendly against Serbia (1-0) before scoring his first international goals : a hat-trick on this Tuesday during the World Cup 2022 qualifier against Kyrgyzstan (5-1).

Michal Sadilek (Czech Republic)

Loaned out by PSV Eindhoven to Slovan Liberec, the Czech midfielder produced the best campaign of his career so far : 24 Czech league games, 6 goals and 2 assists. Thanks to his performances, the Maurice Revello Tournament 2017 graduate has been handed a Euro 2020 call-up with Czech Republic. Before discovering the European Championship with his country, Sadilek has earned his first international cap at the beginning of the month in a friendly against Italy (0-4).

Matz Sels (Belgium)

Sometimes football is paradoxical and the 29-year-old keeper will not say the contrary. Over the last years, the Maurice Revello Tournament 2013 graduate has often been selected with the Belgian national team without making a single appearance. Eventually, the Strasbourg goalkeeper made his Belgium debut over the last days against Greece (1-1) after a season marked by a long-term injury that kept him out of action during several months.

Sang-Woo Kang (South Korea)

After earning a solid experience in the K-League (more than 170 games played in the South Korean top-flight), the Pohang Steelers fullback played his first international game at 27 : it was against Sri Lanka (5-0) during the World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

Muhammad Riyandi (Indonesia)

Like explained recently on our website, the Indonesia national team included in the roster several youngsters seen at Maurice Revello Tournament 2017. Another one made his senior debut over the last days : the goalkeeper Muhammad Riyandi enjoyed his Indonesia bow during the World Cup 2022 qualifier against United Arab Emirates (0-5).

Abbas Al Asfoor & Jasim Al Salama (Bahrain)

Two years after taking part in the Maurice Revello Tournament 2019, the two Bahrain youngsters made their senior international debut during a friendly against Ukraine (1-1).
