THEY SHINED

England have made a successful start to the tournament. The Three Lions played Iran on Monday in the opening game of Group B and put on an attacking display (6-2). Among the scorers, a player who passed through the Maurice Revello Tournament in 2016: Jack Grealish. The Manchester City midfielder came on as a substitute in the 70th minute and scored his team's final goal after a lightning counter-attack.

Just like the English, the French team did not miss their entry into the competition. After being pushed around and even led by Australia for 25 minutes, the Tricolores were able to react thanks in particular to Adrien Rabiot. The player who took part in the Tournament in 2014 first equalised and then set up Olivier Giroud for the 2-1 goal. The Juventus midfielder played a full match, as did his team (4-1).

Mexico relied on their iconic goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa to help them hold Poland to a goalless draw in their Group C opener earlier on Tuesday. The goalkeeper, a graduate of the Maurice Revello Tournament in 2005, saved a penalty from Robert Lewandowski early in the second half.

In Group E, the surprise came from Japan, who beat Germany after a thrilling game (2-1). The team that has the most players who have played in the Tournament (11) came back from a goal down in the second half thanks in particular to Takuma Asano. The striker, who appeared at the Tournament in 2016, came on and gave his team the victory after a superb move in the German box. Kaoru Mitoma, a finalist in the 2019 Tournament, also came on and assisted Ritsu Doan for the equalizer.
