Panama ranked 7th after victory over Saudi Arabia
After South Korea's victory over Indonesia in the match for 9th place, it was the turn of Saudi Arabia and Panama to meet in the match for 7th place. The Saudis, buoyed by their fine victory over Côte d'Ivoire in their last match, were determined to finish as high as possible. But they were up against a Panamanian side with a vengeance after their last-gasp defeat by Japan, which denied them a place in the 5th-place play-off. In a match where both sides had their half-time, it was the penalty shoot-out that decided the fate of the game after a 1-1 draw. The Panamanians proved their superiority in the shoot-out, eventually claiming victory with a score of 4-3.
