The winter transfer window of 2021 has been marked by some resounding transfers. Some of these moves involved players who had been through the Maurice Revello Tournament. Summary.

Sebastien Haller (from West Ham to Ajax Amsterdam) :

The Maurice Revello Tournament 2014 runner-up was one of the protagonists in this winter window. Ajax Amsterdam paid the sum of €22.5m for him, the most expensive transfer in the history of the Dutch league. Not very destabilised by this move, the 26-year-old striker quickly justified his signing: in 6 games, the Ivorian international (2 caps) scored twice and delivered 4 assists. This efficiency reminds of his first stint in the Netherlands with FC Utrecht: 51 goals in 98 matches between 2015 and 2017.

Fikayo Tomori (from Chelsea to AC Milan) :

After a very promising 2019/2020 campaign marked by a Champions League debut with Chelsea and a first cap with the English national team, the winner of the Maurice Revello Tournament 2018 saw his playing time particularly restricted this season with the Blues. In order not to stop his progress, the 23-year-old defender therefore decided to leave his country and head for AC Milan under a loan with an option to buy. This is estimated at €28M according to various media.

Alejandro "Papu" Gomez (from Atalanta to Sevilla FC) :

If Atalanta have been exciting to watch for the football fans in recent years, it is partly thanks to the technical quality of Papu Gomez, the Bergamo's club great playmaker. Since 2014, the Argentinian international (5 caps, 1 goal) has not stopped delighting La Dea fans. But this love story ended badly following disagreements with his coach, which led to him being sidelined. After scoring 59 goals and 71 assists in 252 games for Atalanta, the 32-year-old attacking midfielder leaves Atalanta. The Buenos Aires native will join Sevilla until June 2024.

Jean-Philippe Mateta (from Mainz to Crystal Palace) :

After a thundering start of the season in Germany (10 goals in 17 matches in all competitions with Mainz), the 23-year-old Frenchman, who played in the Maurice Revello Tournament in 2017, has decided to change his tune this winter. Crystal Palace saw the right opportunity by recruiting him on loan with an option to buy. The latter will become obligatory when Mateta reaches 15 Premier League starts with the Eagles.

Demarai Gray (from Leicester to Bayer Leverkusen) :

Following the example of Fikayo Tomori, the 24-year-old winger is leaving the Premier League and confirms the trend of young English expatriates in foreign leagues. After struggling to earn some game time at Leicester this season, the 2016 Premier League winner will try to re-launch himself at Bayer Leverkusen, currently 5th in the Bundesliga and still in contention in the Europa League. Two beautiful challenges in perspective...

Takumi Minamino (from Liverpool to Southampton) :

His arrival in January 2020 from RB Salzburg had caused a sensation but the Japanese international (26 caps, 12 goals) struggled to make a place for himself within the Reds. So Liverpool decided to let go the Japanese during this winter window and more precisely to Southampton, who will welcome him on loan until the end of the season. Leaving to come back?

Etienne Capoue (from Watford to Villarreal) :

At the end of the 2019-2020 season, Watford was relegated from the Premier League to the Championship. A heartbreak for the players, especially those used to the English elite like Etienne Capoue and his 180 matches in the Premier League (with Watford and Tottenham).
So when Villarreal, currently in fifth place in La Liga, came knocking at the door this winter, the Frenchman did not hesitate. "I couldn't let this opportunity pass by", confirmed the 32-year-old midfielder during his presentation to the press by the Spanish club. A great rebound for the Maurice Revello Tournament 2009 runner-up.

Jordan Morris (from Seattle Sounders to Swansea) :

Close to join the Bundesliga and Werder Bremen in 2016 at the end of his university studies, the American finally preferred to sign for the club of his heart, Seattle Sounders. This was a wise choice, as his career was crowned by two Major League Soccer titles (2016 and 2019). But the desire to play in Europe has never left the American international (39 selections, 10 goals) and it is finally this winter that the versatile striker, who played in the Maurice Revello Tournament in 2013 and 2015, decided to make the step.
Swansea, in the running for a come back in the Premier League (currently 2nd in the Championship), is Morris' new home.
