Qatar beat Costa Rica 4-2 to finish 11th in the Maurice Revello 2023 tournament. Here are the post-game reactions from the players and coaches of both teams.
Bruno Pinheiro (Qatar coach) :
"I think it's a deserved victory. We have some regrets about the way the previous matches went, but that's football. Today we played a complete match and I'm happy about that.
Our ultimate objective is to qualify for the Olympic Games, but we still need to work on our style of play.
I think we had a good tournament, although the rankings don't show it. I think this is the first time Qatar have won a match at the Maurice Revello tournament, so it's only the beginning."
Mohamed Manai (Qatar player) :
"It was a difficult match, because we came up against a good Costa Rican team. We came away with a good win in our last game of the tournament.
We played against some very good teams, and this kind of opposition prepares us for our next matches. I'd like to thank the Maurice Revello tournament for giving us this opportunity."
Douglas Sequeira (Costa Rica coach) :
"We played well in the first half, controlling the ball. But in the 25th minute, we conceded a penalty and lost our discipline. The second half was a continuation of that, we took three goals in ten minutes and that hurt us. I'm aware that we didn't play well in the second half.
We were in a very competitive group and we attacked every game to win it. The important thing is to get back home and analyse the tournament."
Doryan Rodriguez (Costa Rica player) :
"It was a complicated match for us. We weren't having a good day. We told each other things and we managed to score two goals, unfortunately too late.
I think we came up against some top teams. This tournament has taught us, in part, the intensity of football. Unfortunately we lost, but you have to learn from your mistakes and keep working."
