For their first game ever in the Toulon Tournament, Canada earned a 0-0 draw against Portugal. Find out the postgame reaction from the Canada head coach John Herdman.
“Really proud of the boys. I noticed the efforts, the confidence, the way we played. This wasn’t one of those games where they defended for a long period of time. I thought they showed confidence, a new Canada. That’s what we want to show to the world, show why we are here. It wasn’t just a working-hard defensively, it was also an attacking performance there that I can be proud of.
The Maurice Revello Tournament is one of the biggest tournaments. We never played together before, we’ve had four days of training. We have a group of men here prepared to do what it takes to take Canada to the next level.
Every tournament has a story. There is always in a tournament a team that does the unexpected. We wanted to be that team. We’ve started our journey tonight but it depends on how they gonna work and whether they used that result to build or whether their feet come off the ground and they lose the focus.”
