A number of Toulon Tournament former players are currently playing the Rio Olympics with their national teams. After each game, we take a look at their performances. During this Matchday 3, Luan stole the show with Brazil while Cristian Bonilla made a convincing performance with Colombia !

Group A

Denmark – Brazil : 0-4

After two goalless draws against Iraq and South Africa, Brazil clinched their first win in the 2016 Rio Olympics after a convincing display. Luan, winner of the Toulon Tournament 2014, played a key role in this success as the Gremio attacking midfielder delivered an assist and netted the third goal of this team. Thanks to this win, Brazil are qualified for the quarter-finals.

Group B

Colombia – Nigeria : 2-0

Against the leader of the group, Colombia earned a 2-0 win and advanced to the quarter-finals. The goalkeeper Cristian Bonilla (Toulon Tournament 2013) made a number of crucial saves to keep his side in the match.

Group C

South Korea – Mexico : 1-0

It was a crucial clash for both teams as the losers would face an exit. South Korea won this decisive game thanks to a Chang-Hoon Kwon’s goal just before the end of the game. Ryu Seung-Woo (Toulon Tournament 2013), who netted a treble against Fiji, played 71 minutes on the left wing.

Group D

Algeria – Portugal : 1-1

Portugal were already qualified before this draw against Algeria. It should be noted that the Portuguese defense was composed of several former Toulon Tournament players : the goalkeeper Bruno Varela, the right-back Ricardo Esgaio as well as the centre-backs  Edgar Ié and Tiago Ilori.
