A number of Toulon Tournament former players are currently playing the Rio Olympics with their national teams. After each game, we take a look at their performances. During this Matchday 2, Takuma Asano distinguished himself while Brazil and Marquinhos were held to another draw.
Group A
Brazil – Irak : 0-0
Brazil are still without a goal since the beginning of the Rio Olympics. After a disappointing draw against South Africa, Marquinhos (Toulon Tournament 2014) and his teammates were held to another draw against Iraq. The Olympics hosts need to win the next game against Denmark if they want to avoid an exit…
Group B
Sweden – Nigeria : 0-1
Nigeria clinched a second win in a row to secure a spot for the quarter-finals. The U23 African champions beat Sweden after a convincing game. It should also be noted that Abdullahi Shehu (Toulon Tournament 2013), played the full game. The União Madeira has produced a solid performance.
Japan – Colombia : 2-2
Japan came from behind to earn a draw against Colombia. After 65 minutes, the Asian team was 2-0 down. However, Takuma Asano (Toulon Tournament 2016) has reduced the deficit thanks to his second goal in this competition. Then, Shoya Nakajima netted the equalizer. Thanks to this result, Asano and his teammates are still alive in this tournament !
Group C
Fidji – Mexico : 1-5
Fidji took an early lead but Mexico fought back to earn a 5-1 win. “El Tri” can thank Carlos Cisneros, who took part in the Toulon Tournament 2015. The Chivas Guadalajara attacking midfielder came off the bench after 33 minutes and made a huge impact as he delivered two assists !
Group D
Honduras – Portugal : 1-2
Portugal won a second successive game and booked a spot for the next round. Tobias Figueiredo (Toulon Tournament 2014) netted the equalizer after a beautiful cross from Sergio Oliveira (TT 2011). Just before the half time, Goncalo Paciencia scored the second goal of his team.
