Twelve nations from North America, Central America and the Caribbean region are currently taking part in the CONCACAF U20 which is held in Costa Rica from 18 February to 5 March. During the Matchday 2, Mexico earned their second win in a row while USA keep their chances alive as they overcome Haiti.
Group A : Mexico 6 pts (+8), Honduras 6 pts (+4), Antigua-and-Barbuda 0 pt, Canada 0 pt.
After beating Antigua-and-Barbuda in their previous game, Mexico earned a second win in a row as they hammered Canada (5-0). Ronaldo Cisneros netted a brace to take his competition’s tally to 4 goals ! Meanwhile, Francisco Cordova, Claudio Zamudio and Eduardo Aguirre scored too in this game. Thanks to this win, “El Tri” secured their spot for the next round.
Honduras will advance to the next stage too as they have beaten Antigua-and-Barbuda (4-1). An own goal from Jamarlie Stevens as well as goals scored by Douglas Martinez, Darixon Vuelto and Jorge Alvarez were enough to secure the win for Honduras. It should be noted that Luther Wildin has reduced the deficit for Antigua-and-Barbuda.
Group B : Panama 6 pts, United States 3 pts (+2), Haïti 3 pts (+1), Saint-Kitts-and-Nevis 0 pt.
Brilliant against United States, Panama confirmed their good form as they earned a sensational 4-0 victory over Saint-Kitts-and-Nevis thanks to a Ricardo Avila’s brace and goals from Andres Andrade and Leandro Avila.
Few hours later, United States claimed a crucial 4-1 win over Haiti. The Haitians scored the opener thanks to Kenley Dede but USA were saved from an embarrassing defeat by Brooks Lennon as the Liverpool striker scored three goals. Luca De La Torre got his name on the scoresheet too.
Group C : Salvador 6 pts, Costa Rica 3 pts, Trinidad-and-Tobago 1 pt, Bermuda 1 pt,
Thanks to their 3-1 win over Bermuda, Salvador ensured their qualification for the next round. Roberto Dominguez, Josué Rivera and Fernando Castillo were the scorers for Salvador while Mazhye Burchall reduced the deficit for Bermuda with a wonderful volley into the top corner.
Costa Rica bounced back from their opening defeat against Salvador as the Costa Ricans earned a 1-0 win over Trinidad-and-Tobago. The winning goal was scored by Randall Leal on a free-kick just before the hour mark.
REMINDER : the top four teams of the final tournament will qualify for the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup
