The African Cup of Nations U20 is currently taking place (26 February-12 March) at Zambia. During the Matchday 1, South Africa and the hosts Zambia were brilliant !
Group A : Zambia 3 pts, Egypt 1 pt, Mali 1 pt, Guinea 0 pt
Front of their fans, Zambia earned a 1-0 win over Guinea. The hosts took the lead thanks to Patson Daka who scored the winner after 47 minutes.
The other game between Mali and Egypt ended a in a goalless draw (0-0). The Malians, who will compete in the Toulon Tournament 2007, were held to a draw despite two big chances for Sekou Koita, the Red Bull Salzburg player.
Groupe B : South African 3 pts, Senegal 1 pt, Sudan 1 pt, Cameroon 0 pt.
Senegal came from behind to claim a 1-1 draw against Sudan. Reduced to 10 men following the Mamadou Diarra’s sending off, the Senegalese have conceded a goal after 20 minutes as the Sudanese midfielder Hassan Hassa has converted a penalty. Senegal will eventually equalize with two minutes remaining thanks to Ibrahima Niane.
Few hours later, South Africa beat Cameroon (3-1). Eric Ayuk gave an early lead to Cameroon but the South Africans reversed the trend thanks to their hero Luther Singh. The Sporting Braga netted a hat-trick : Singh equalized thanks to a powerful free-kick, then he gave the lead to his side as he converted a penalty. The striker scored again in the second half after a fine solo run.
REMINDER : the top four teams of the competition will qualify for the upcoming World Cup U20
