Toulon Tournament's 100 best players : (30-21)

More than 1700 international players took part in the Toulon Tournament founded in 1967 by Maurice Revello. Many of these players have enjoyed a successful career . Ahead of the 45th edition of the Toulon Tournament (29 May-10 June), we unveil you the best 100 players in the Toulon Tournament history. Today, we continue our countdown by looking at the players ranked 30-21.

30. KOLO TOURE


Born on 19 March 1981

Kolo Touré was part of the Ivory Coast squad that finished 4th at the Toulon Tournament 2000. He took part in the competition alongside players like Copa Barry and Siaka Tiéné. Together, they will won the African Cup of Nations with the Ivorian senior squad in 2015 ! During his career, Touré has also enjoyed a successful spell in England as he won the Premier League two times.

The love story between Youri Djorkaeff and the French national began in 1989 when the future Inter Milan player helped his nation to win the Toulon Tournament 1989 with a goal scored in final against Bulgaria (3-0). Few years later, Djorkaeff won the World Cup 1998 as well as the Euro 2000 with Les Bleus..

Alongside Juan Roman Riquelme, the Argentinian defender won the Toulon Tournament in 1998 and played a key role as he netted a goal during the final against France (2-0). Walter Samuel has enjoyed a successful career as he won 18 trophies including six Serie A titles as well as a Champion’s League with Inter Milan.

Esteban Cambiasso is one of the youngest players ever to appear in the Toulon Tournament as he was only 16 when he helped Argentina to finish 4th at the Toulon Tournament 1996. After few years spent in Argentina, Cambiasso came in Europe and has enjoyed an exciting spell at Inter Milan, winning twelve titles between 2004 and 2014.

Alan Shearer was outstanding during the Toulon Tournament 1991. The English striker guided the Young Three Lions to the title as he finished as the competition’s top scorer with 7 goals. He was also named best player of the tournament. The rest is history : Shearer is the all-time Premier League top scorer with 260 goals !
