Before establishing himself as one of the greatest strikers in the French football history, “JPP” has played the Toulon Tournament. It was in 1985 and the Frenchman was already a clinical forward.
Jean-Pierre Papin helped France to win the Toulon Tournament 1985 as scored three goals in this edition. Including a stunning strike against Spain during the group stage. Many years later, Papin remembers his goal.
“I have a video of this goal against Spain and I’m watching it often. I began to run from our own half, I have received a pass and then I have finished the action by a shot into the opposite top corner. It was my first goal at the Stade Vélodrome. However, at that moment, I didn’t know that I will score so many goals in this stadium”, he said in an exclusive interview on 2015.
Plenty of goals and a Ballon d’Or !
Papin is remembered for his fantastic spell at Olympique de Marseille. The French striker has won 4 league titles and a French Cup with OM. He was also named Ballon d’Or in 1991.
Papin has scored 184 goals in 311 games with the French side and has won the “OM’s player of the century” award. Meanwhile, Papin was also a key player for the French national team as he netted 30 goals in 54 international caps with Les Bleus.
