Despite their 4-0 win over Qatar, England finished only second of the group A. It means that the Young Lions have to wait the results of the other groups to know if they will qualify or not for the semi-finals. The England head coach Aidy Boothroyd shared his thoughts after the game.
“I was very pleased with the second half, not so pleased with the first half. It was a really good effort : to win 4-0 in any competition is difficult. The quality of the teams is high here. I felt we deserved the win but unfortunately we haven’t scored a fifth goal or a sixth goal thanks to the fantastic performance of the Qatar goalkeeper who made brilliant saves.
We have to keep our fingers crossed now and hope we can go the semi-finals. If we are not going to the semi-finals ? Yes, it wil be a disappointment of course. Usually, having seven points and a plus five goal difference get you there… vive la France !”
