The World Cup 2018 takes place from 14th June to 15th July. It should be noted that 81 players who took part in the Maurice Revello Tournament compete in the World Cup. Throughout the competition, we will take look at their performances !

Mexico-Sweden : 0-3

Impressive during their first two games, Guillermo Ochoa and his teammates were totally outclassed by Sweden. The Swedish captain Andreas Granqvist has been solid defensively and has also scored on a penalty his second goal of the competition.

It’s fair to say that the Krasnodar defender, who took part in the Maurice Revello Tournament 2004, has played a central role in the qualification earned by his side. Meanwhile, the Mexicans are also qualified despite their loss.

Serbia-Brazil : 0-2

By keeping a clean sheet, the Brazilian keeper Alisson helped the Seleçao to secure a spot for the next round. Filipe Luis and Fernandinho took part also in this game as they came off the bench.

Japan-Poland : 0-1

This game was the opportunity for Tomoaki Makino, Gotoku Sakai and Yoshinori Muto to make their World Cup debut. Unfortunately for them, the Samurai Blue have been beaten by Poland. However, Japan secured a spot for the last 16 thanks to the fair play rule (Japan picked up only four yellow cards during the group stage, Senegal six).

Senegal-Colombia : 0-1

Los Cafeteros needed a win to advance to the next round and eventually reached their aim thanks to a late goal from Mina. A number of Toulon Tournament former players have been included in the Colombia’s starting XI : Santiago Arias, Davinson Sanchez, James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao. Meanwhile, Luis Muriel and Miguel Borja came off the bench.

England-Belgium : 0-1

While the first place of the group G was at stake, the Three Lions were defeated by Les Diables Rouges. Three Maurice Revello Tournament former players have been named in the England starting line-up : the goalkeeper Jordan Pickford as well as the midfielders Eric Dier and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
