Abdou Diallo, the Borussia Dortmund’s new defensive leader

The French players are popular. We have just to take a look at the moves made during each transfer window to observe that European clubs are ready to splash out on some French talents. Borussia Dortmund are one of these clubs.

BVB secured a Champions League spot thanks to their fourth-place finish in the Bundesliga last term. During this pre-season, the German giants redoubled efforts to bring in a defender able to strengthen their defensive line (47 goals conceded in Bundesliga last season) and have opted for Abdou Dialo, who has been impressive with Mainz.

To lure the Maurice Revello Tournament 2016 runner-up, Borussia Dortmund spent around €28M which means the Frenchman is the second most expensive transfer in Dortmund history, just behind Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

“I had other options but Dortmund was the best option for me. BVB is a big club with ambitions. I have those too”, recently said Diallo. “I want to work hard and make progress. Why shouldn't we play for the first place ?”, asked the AS Monaco former player.

To reach this aim, Diallo and his teammates have to cut the gap between them and Bayern Munich, winners of the last six league titles…
