“Lassana was majestic and he covered every blade of grass. He was tough, he won tackles, he won duels, he gave us energy and he broke play up for us. That is his first 90 minutes. Can you imagine what he is going to be like after five or six performances and five or six games in his legs?”.
After the 1-0 win over Osijek earned during the Europa League second qualifying round, the Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has praised the performance made by his new signing : Lassana Coulibaly.
These words from Gerrard, who was one of the best midfielders in the world at his peak with Liverpool, have surely boosted the confidence of the 22-year-old midfielder. “He is always giving me advice and talking to me. Given he was such a great midfield player I have to listen to him”, said the Mali international (10 caps), who took part in the Maurice Revello Tournament 2016.
After only few weeks spent in Scotland, Coulibaly has already become a fan favourite at Glasgow. The Malian has quickly met the expectations like illustrated, for example, by his goal against Maribor (3-1) in the Europa League third qualifying round.
The coach Steven Gerrard was full of praise for the Malian following this new promising display. “We would love to have Lassana on a full-time basis”, said the former Liverpool legend.
To make it happen, Coulibaly who joined the Rangers on loan from Angers, has to maintain his impressive form during the rest of the season.
