Just before celebrating his 20th birthday, Omar Alderete decided to leave Paraguay, his native country, to continue his development in the Superliga Argentina with Gimnasia La Plata.
It was a wise decision as the 22-year-old defender had the opportunity to play regularly in the Argentinian top flight (22 games, 1 goal). His first season in Argentina allowed him to step up to the next level.
Firstly, Alderete has secured this summer a move to Huracan, a club that finished fourth in the Superliga Argentina last season and qualified for the next Copa Libertadores.

Meanwhile, the defender has also made the headlines in his country as he has been handed his first ever Paraguay call-up on this week.
Two years after his participation at the Maurice Revello Tournament 2016, Alderete will discover the Albirroja, aiming to cement his place while Paraguay embarked on a fresh cycle in order to prepare the World Cup 2022 qualifiers.
