Southampton announced the signing of Sékou Mara from Girondins de Bordeaux. After shining at the Maurice Revello Tournament 2022, the Frenchman will discover the Premier League.
Winner of the Maurice Revello Tournament 2022, top scorer (5 goals) and named second best player of the competition, Sékou Mara has impressed both fans and observers in Provence on June.
His tremendous performances at the Maurice Revello Tournament combined with his strong end to the season in Ligue 1 (5 goals netted in the last 7 games) have caught the eye of numerous European clubs.
Eventually, Southampton secured his signing in a €13M deal (bonuses included). The promising striker, who will turn 20 at the end of July, leaves Girondins de Bordeaux to discover the prestigious Premier League.

« I'm a young player and I have to work. I think Southampton is the best club for me to develop myself and progress to be one of the best. I'm impatient to begin with this team and score goals”, told Mara to the Saints official website.
Despite his young age, Mara is seen as a player able to revitalise the Southampton attacking line which sometimes lacked efficiency during the previous season. “Sékou is coming here to score goals and has shown in the French league he can do this, now he needs to work hard and show he can do this in the Premier League”, said Southampton manager coach Ralph Hasenhüttl.
At Southampton, Mara will play alongside numerous Maurice Revello Tournament graduates : the defenders Lyanco, Jack Stephens, Kyle Walker-Peters and Romain Perraud, the forwards Nathan Redmond and Adam Armstrong. And not forgetting the Southampton’s captain and top scorer in Premier League last season (10 goals) : James Ward-Prowse.
