Mexico 4-0 Qatar : Post-game reactions

On the second day of Group B, Mexico defeated Qatar 4-0 and to take the lead of their group. Here are the post-game reactions from the coaches and players of both teams.

Raul Chabrand (Mexico head coach):

"We analysed Qatar after their match against Australia and we were warned that this match was going to be very complicated. The decisive moment was the first goal.

In the dressing room, the message I wanted to send was to believe in our strengths, to stay calm and not give up.

There were things we didn't do well, but these are things we're going to improve on."

Santiago Trigos (Mexico midfielder):

"We got off to a very poor start and it was very difficult to get into our stride. We're only really remembering the second half, which was much better.

Our objective is very simple: to win the Tournament.

We're aware that we'll have to improve on certain points, but we already want to finish the group matches against Australia in the best possible way and then improve so that we can reach the semi-finals as well as possible."

Bruno Pinheiro (Qatar head coach) :

"Honestly, the result is very harsh, I think it's unfair. Before Mexico scored their first goal, maybe we were better than them. We were in control of the game but we lacked concentration at set-pieces. We conceded 3 goals in 5-10 minutes. We weren't good with second balls. After the first goal, we became disorganised.

We were in control of the game, but we took two corners, which was very hard. The defensive line was very tired after conceding those goals. The first game against Australia tested us physically and in the second half we felt that the physical side had given way.

The aim is to get the players back. I think they're aware of the importance of the next match. Mentally, I don't think there will be any problems for them. I think they've taken a bit of a knock today, but they'll bounce back and do the best they can, I'm sure."

Ilyes Brimil (Qatar forward) :

"I'm proud of my team because, despite the fact that we were four goals down, we kept pushing to try and score. We conceded three goals from set-pieces, in which they were better than us. We also took one through a defensive error because we lacked concentration. We're going to have to work on those little details.

The coach's instructions were to make an impact in the duels, try to win the first and second balls and always press the ball carrier. We knew that Mexico were going to be very intense in terms of contact. We can't say that they played better football than us because it was tight in the first half. But they were able to work on our weak points and that's why they won the match.

I'm confident about the next match against the Mediterranean team. If we win, I think we'll finish as best runners-up. Sunday's match is a final for us and we're going to do everything we can to win it."
