Mexico 0-2 Australia : Post-game reactions
In a controlled match, Australia beat Mexico 2-0 to qualify for the semi-finals of the Maurice Revello 2023 Tournament. Here are the post-game reactions from the coaches and players of both teams.
Raul Chabrand (Mexico head coach) :
"We're disappointed with the result. Australia are a good team, they played a great game. Now we're going to follow the other matches and correct what went wrong today.
We weren't able to analyse our opponents' tactical system. The fact that we conceded the first goal hampered us and changed the complexion of the match."
Dagoberto Espinosa (Mexico player) :
"We weren't clear in attack and unfortunately we lost the game. We went out on the pitch with a positive mentality, we were aware of what we had to do, but unfortunately we didn't succeed.
We're going to get back to work and do everything we can to continue in this tournament."
Tony Vidmar (Australia head Coach) :
"It was a tough match against a very talented Mexican team with some excellent players. They made it difficult for us, especially in the first half. But one thing the players showed was their character and determination. They can stand up against any team."
"We focused a lot on ourselves, ensuring that our team was well organized both offensively and defensively. We knew it would be a strong team, which is why we came to this tournament. We need to play against opponents like this."
"Now, we have a few days of rest, and then we will prepare for the semi-finals. It's crucial for the players to recover first. We will wait and see tomorrow to find out who we will be playing against."
Cameron Peupion (Australia Player) :
"It was our goal, we want to win the tournament. We play to win every match, and we are very happy to have achieved that today. Additionally, I have friends here in France, and part of my family is French. They came to support me, so it's nice to be here."
"Everything is going well for me at the moment. Even though I take the matches one at a time, what's happening right now is a great experience for me. Playing a match in the Premier League, which is the league of my dreams, was fantastic. But now, I remain focused. I want to win the tournament; that's why we're here, and it's our next objective."
