Le Portugal s’adjuge la troisième place // Portugal sits on the third place
A la demi-heure de jeu, les Britanniques vont enfin de montrer dangereux. Berahino (ENG, 9) sonne la révolte mais ne trouve pas le cadre. Une minute plus tard, l’attaquant de West Bromwich oblige Varela (POR, 1) à se détendre sur une jolie frappe croisée. Plus entreprenants, les Anglais finissent bien le premier acte mais ce sont les Portugais qui se sont montrés les plus dangereux.
Les partenaires de Gibson (ENG, 16) démarre la deuxième période comme ils avaient terminé la première. Chalobah (ENG, 4) puis Redmond (ENG, 11) n’arrivent pas à trouver le cadre. Les Anglais, pourtant dominateurs, vont se faire surprendre. Horta (POR, 7) hérite d’un ballon dans la surface. Sa frappe trouve la lucarne de Butland (ENG, 1) (1-0, 56’).
La confiance a changé de camp. Medeiros (POR, 10) et Horta (POR, 7) sont à deux doigts de doubler la mise dans la foulée. Les Anglais, pourtant menés, ont du mal à s’approcher du but adverse. Sans véritablement souffrir, le Portugal garde son petit avantage et termine ainsi troisième de cette 42ème édition du Festival International Espoirs.
Against an irregular England, Portugal wins 1-0 and sits on the third place of the tournament. Portuguese dominate the beginning of the game. As the previous games, England is disappointing. Helder Costa (POR, 11) tries to open the score, but Butland (ENG, 1) makes a save. Few minutes later, Fernandes (POR, 15) finds the bar with a powerfull shot ! Gareth Southgate team has attempts in the end of the first period. Berahino (ENG, 9), twice, is dangerous. Both teams go back to locker room with a draw.
Gibson (ENG, 4) teammates start very well the second half. Chalobah (ENG, 4) and Redmond (ENG, 11) chances aren’t on the net. But it’s Portugal which opens the score. Ricardo Horta (POR, 7) receives a ball in the box and scores with a volley on the top corner of the net (1-0, 56’). Portugal takes the control of the game. Medeiros (POR, 10) and Horta (POR, 7) are near to score the second goal. Without suffering, Portugal keeps his advantage and ends at the third place the tournament.
