While the World Cup 2019 is fast approaching, Klara Bühl, Tanja Pawollek and Laura Freigang have been handed their first Germany call-ups. A huge opportunity for these three players seen at the Sud Ladies Cup 2018.
New head coach, new chance to shine for the players. At the end of November, Martina Voss-Tecklenburg has been appointed as the Germany head coach. The German legend (125 caps) offers a clean slate to all players, just few months before the World Cup 2019 where the Mannschaft will face China, Spain and South Africa in the group B on June.
A training camp was held this month in Marbella (Spain) by the new head coach to evaluate her team. Voss-Tecklenburg has picked a wide group of thirty players. Among them, three players who took part in the Sud Ladies Cup 2018.
Aged 18 and 19 respectively, the forward Klara Bühl (Freiburg) and the midfielder Tanja Pawollek (Frankfurt) have been included in the squad following her good performances in the Bundesliga. Same thing for the promising midfielder Laura Freigang. Initially not selected, the Frankfurt starlet has been called up as injury cover. A deserved call-up for a player who taken the Bundesliga by storm by scoring eight goals in ten games.
This training camp is a huge opportunity for Bühl, Pawollek and Freigang to shine. “I’m not just thinking about the World Cup, I’m thinking more long-term, which is why we are taking a lot of younger players. We want to see what they are ready for, what they can bring to the table”, said Voss-Tecklenburg.
