AFC U19 : Sulaeman and Indonesia made history, Hashim Ali unstoppable !

The U19 Asian Championship, held from 18th October to 4th November in Indonesia, features the 16 best nations of the continent. The four teams which will reach the semi-finals will be qualified automatically for the upcoming U20 World Cup held in Poland next summer.

Indonesia – United Arab Emirates : 1-0

The country host needed a win against its opponent to reach the next round. Indonesia eventually clinched the victory thanks to Witan Sulaeman. The 17-year-old, who played the Maurice Revello Tournament 2017, netted his third in this competition during the first half.
Despite being reduced to 10 men after the Nurhidayat Haji Haris’ sending off, Indonesia kept the advantage and reach the quarter-finals for the first in 40 years.

Qatar – Chinese Taipei : 4-0

The Qatarians waited the second half to break the deadlock. Once again, Hashim Ali distinguished himself. The young Qatar international (1 cap) took his tally to four goals since the start to the competition as he netted a brace.  Khaled Mansour and Abdulrasheed Umaru (top scorer of the tournament with 5 goals) got also their names on the scoreheet.

Group A : Qatar 6 pts, Indonesia 6 pts, United Arab Emirates 6 pts, Chinese Taipei 0 pt.

Japon – Iraq : 5-0

Three games, three wins. The title holders enjoyed a perfect group stage.  Kyosuke Tagawa, the Sagan Tosu forward who played the Maurice Revello Tournament this summer, has scored his first goal during this game.

Groupe B : Japan 9 pts, Thaïland 4 pts, North Korea 3 pts, Iraq 1 pt.

Vietnam - South Korea: 1-3

After conceding the opening goal, South Korea came from behind and can thank Cho Young-Wook. The Seoul forward, who played the Maurice Revello Tournament 2018, netted a brace and helped his country to reverse the trend.

Group C : South Korea 7 pts, Australia 5 pts, Jordan 4 pts, Vietnam 0 pt

Chine – Malaysia : 2-0

Already eliminated before the game, China ended their campaign by a win thanks to goals from Tao Qianglong and Xu Yue.

Group D : Saudi Arabia 9 pts, Tajikistan 4 pts, China 3 pts, Malaysia 1 pt.
