Twelve nations from North America, Central America and the Caribbean region are currently taking part in the CONCACAF U20 which is held in Costa Rica from 18 February to 5 March. During the Matchday 3 of the last round, Costa Rica and United States ensured their qualification for the upcoming World Cup U20. Mexico guaranteed their place too at the WC U20 despite being exempt from this Matchday.
Group A : United States 6 pts, Mexico 3 pts, Salvador 0 pt.
United States secured World Cup U20 spot as they earned a 2-1 win over Salvador. Emmanuel Sabbi scored an early opener while Eryk Williamson netted a tremendous goal as he fired a powerful shot from distance into the net. These two goals were enough for USA to claim a victory despite the goal scored by the Honduras forward Marvin Marquez in the second half.
Thanks to this win, USA will also play the CONCACAF U20 final as they finished atop the group A.
Mexico, exempt from this Matchday, will also compete in the World Cup U20 as they finished second of the group after the Salvador’s loss against USA.
Group B : Honduras 6 pts, Costa Rica 1 pt (-1), Panama 1 pt (-2).
Hosts Costa Rica needed only a draw to qualify for the World Cup U20 and they earned it as they shared the spoils with Panama (1-1). Once again, Randall Leal broke the deadlock for Costa Rica as the Malines midfielder netted his 3rd goal of the tournament after 9 minutes. In the second half, Isidoro Hinestroza netted the equalizer for Panama.
Honduras, exempt from this Matchday, are qualified for the CONCACAF U20 final as well as for the World Cup U20 as they finished atop the group B.
