Twelve nations from North America, Central America and the Caribbean region are currently taking part in the CONCACAF U20 which is held in Costa Rica from 18 February to 5 March. During the Matchday 2 of the final round, Honduras sealed their qualification for the World Cup while Mexico outclassed Salvador.
Group A : Mexico 3 pts (+4), United States 3 pts (+1), Salvador 0 pt.
Mexico bounced back from their loss against United States as they hammered Salvador (6-1). Uriel Antuna produced a man of the match display as he netted a hat-trick while his Santos Laguna teammate Ronaldo Cisneros, the top scorer of the tournament, converted a penalty to take his competition’s tally to 6 goals. Meanwhile, Eduardo Aguirre got his name on the scoresheet too while Walter Chiguila scored an unlucky own goal. In the first half, Fernando Castillo reduced the deficit for Salvador with a perfect free-kick.
United States were exempt from this Matchday.
Group B : Honduras 6 pts, Costa Rica 0 pt, Panama 0 pt.
Honduras secured their place for the upcoming World Cup U20 as they overcome a one-goal deficit to earn a 2-1 win over hosts Costa Rica. Andy Reyes gave the lead to Costa Rica after 47 minutes but Denil Maldonado netted the equalizer two minutes later. Then, Honduras scored the winning goal with twenty minutes remaining as the corner kicked by Dariwon Vuelto was met with a strong header by Foslyn Grant.
Despite their loss, Costa Rica keep their chances alive as they need only a draw against Panama to book their place for the World Cup.
