AFC U19 : Ito leads the way for Japan, South Korea held to a draw despite Se-Jin Jeon’s goal

The U19 Asian Championship, held from 18th October to 4th November in Indonesia, features the 16 best nations of the continent. The four teams which will reach the semi-finals will be qualified automatically for the upcoming U20 World Cup held in Poland next summer.

Indonesia – Chinese Taipei : 3-1

The Indonesians won their opening game. The Maurice Revello Tournament 2017 breakthrough player Egy Vikri distinguished himself as he scored and delivered an assist for his teammate Witan Sulaeman. The latter, who also played the Maurice Revello Tournament, netted a brace.

United Arab Emirates – Qatar : 2-1

Despite the presence of Hashim Ali and Ahmed Suhail in the starting XI, Qatar couldn’t manage to grab a point against UAE. The Emiratis led by the French coach Ludovic Batelli clinched the win thanks to goals from Fawzi and Saleh.

Groupa A : Indonesia 3 pts, United Arab Emirates 3 pts, Qatar 0 pt, Chinese Taipei 0 pt.

Japan – North Korea : 5-2

The title holders earned the win after a thrilling game. After only twenty minutes, the Samurai Blue took a two-goal advantage. The opener netted by Koki Saito was followed by a stunner scored by the captain Hiroki Ito, who took part in the Maurice Revello Tournament 2017.
Then, the North Koreans levelled the scores thanks to two goals scored before the half time. Eventually, Japan claimed the win in the second half. Takefusa Kubo and Taisei Miyashiro found the net as well as Hiroki Abe who played also the Maurice Revello Tournament 2017.

Group B : Japan 3 pts, Iraq 1 pt, Thailand 1 pt, North Korea 0 pt.

South Korea – Australia : 1-1

The South Koreans can have some regrets. After the opener scored by Se-Jin Jeon, the Suwon starlet who played the Maurice Revello Tournament 2018, they were close to double the lead but the Um Won-sang’s hit the woodwork.
Eventually, Australia scored a late equalizer thanks to a brilliant shot fired by Ramy Najarine.

Group C : Jordan 3 pts, Australia 1 pt, South Korea 1 pt, Vietnam 0 pt.

Tajikistan  - China : 1-0

China are already in trouble after losing their opening game against Tajikistan. The Wen Jiabao’s teammates suffered from their lack of efficiency and were punished by a shot from distance of Sharafjon Solehov.
China need a win against Saudi Arabia to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the next round.

Group D : Saudi Arabia 3 pts, Tajikistan 3 pts, Malaysia 0 pt, China 0 pt.
