For their first season ever in the Spanish top-flight, Girona were tipped to struggle by the observers but the Catalan club, founded in 1930, is deifying all the odds !
After 16 games, Girona are currently 7th in la Liga with 23 points. Yassine Bounou, who took part in the Toulon Tournament 2012, has been a driving force for the Catalans.
Since the 26-year-old keeper has recovered the starting spot, Girona are impressing the observers. The newly promoted team clinched 17 points in their last 8 league games and they have notably beaten Real Madrid (2-1) as well as Espanyol (1-0).
The Morocco international (2 caps) is probably relishing the moment, especially when we know that he spent the most of his career in the Spanish Second Division (Real Zaragoza and Atletico Madrid reserve team).
Unless something unexpected happens, Bounou will take part in the World Cup 2018 with his national team. The Montreal-born is considered as the second-choice goalkeeper by the Morocco head coach Hervé Renard so far but he can probably push for the starting spot if he maintains his form with Girona…
