Following their 2-0 win over China, Portugal clinched the 9th place of the Maurice Revello Tournament. After the game, the head coach Helio Sousa shared this thoughts.
“We weren’t efficient enough in the other games to earn the results we wanted. We did it today. We came here, like Qatar I think, with the youngest team of the tournament. The aim was to give competition to my team ahead of the Euro U19 that will be held in July.
I’m really happy with my players. They have always tried to accomplish what we asked for. It’s not the final place that we hoped and fought for. In some moments, we weren’t so strong enough.
We haven’t lost any game this year until playing here. We knew the contest. We knew that It will be difficult because the opponents are one or two years older than ours. This competition gives them more maturity, more experience.
I played this tournament in 1990 too. I have the best memories from this tournament as a player. I hope my players will not forget these moments. We played against team from all around the world, that gives to us a different experience.
My team and I were very happy to be here. We know the contest. We wanted to play the final. I hope my players will stay with good memories here. Results are not the most important for us for this time."
