Ranking games : Portugal finish 9th, South Korea clinch the 11th place

The 9th place match as well as the 11th place match were held on this Tuesday. Portugal and South Korea have respectively beaten China (2-0) and Qatar (2-1).

9th place match : Portugal 2-0 China

After a frustrating group stage, Portugal produced a strong display against China. The Helio Sousa boys secured a win thanks to their efficiency in the first half. After a beautiful cross from Ruben Vinagre, the West Ham United starlet Domingos Quina fired a fantastic effort into the top corner (10’). Then, at the 27th minute, Pedro Correira doubled the lead for his side thanks to a beautiful chip goal.

“My team and I were very happy to be here. We know the contest. We wanted to play the final. I hope my players will keep good memories from this competitin. Results are not the most important for us for this time”said the head coach Helio Sousa after the game.

11th place match : Qatar 1-2 South Korea

Defeated three times in a row during the group stage, South Korea ended their Maurice Revello Tournament campaign by a win over Qatar. Goals from Jeon and Cho helped them to secure the victory.

After the hour mark, Abdulsalam reduced the deficit for Qatar but It wasn't enough for his side to claim the win. “To make an assessment, at the positive level, we improved in defending. We played probably against the two best teams of the tournament, Mexico and England. We grew up during the competition. About the negative points, we didn't play at our real level, it's not the game and the tournament that we wanted to do”, told the Qatar head coach Bruno Pinheiro following this result.
