The benefits of the collaboration between the Maurice Revello Tournament and FIFA regarding the refereeing are seen during the 2023 Women’s World Cup

Since 2022, the Maurice Revello Tournament and FIFA have built a partnership regarding the development of women's refereeing. The benefits of this collaboration are seen during the Women’s World Cup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand that has started on this Thursday 20st July. Indeed, 30 women referees who officiated at the Maurice Revello Tournament since the beginning of this partnership with FIFA have been selected for this 2023 World Cup.

In 2022, the Maurice Revello Tournament and FIFA have joined forces for a world first : a men’s competition refereed exclusively by women match officials. The aim of this collaboration was to contribute to the development of women referees as well as prepare them to the Women’s World Cup organized one year later, in 2023.

Twelve months later, on this 20st July 2023, the Women’s World Cup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand has started. The opportunity to see the benefits of the collaboration  with FIFA.

Indeed, 30 women referees who have officiated during the Maurice Revello Tournament since the beginning of the partnership with FIFA have been selected for the 2023 World Cup : 14 referees and 16 assistants from all over the world.

The World Cup’s opening game between New Zealand and Norway has been refereed by Ivan Martincic who officiated during the Maurice Revello Tournament 2023. Few hours later, the second game of the World Cup between Australia and Ireland has been refereed by Edina Alves : the Brazilian referee has been in charge notably of the Maurice Revello Tournament 2022 final between France and Venezuela.
