World Cup U20 : DeMelo hits hat-trick, Freigang ensures Germany’s qualification

The U20 Women’s World Cup is held in France from 5th to 24th August. It should be noted that 64 players who took part in the Sud Ladies Cup compete in the World Cup. Throughout the competition, we will take look at their performances !

France – New Zealand : 0-0

Efficient during the previous game against Ghana, the French offensive line didn’t find the net against New Zealand. Emelyne Laurent and Sandy Baltimore have had big chances to break the deadlock but both lacked of efficiency. The Gilles Eyquem’s team will face Netherlands in the last game to try to clinch the group’s top spot.

Standings Group A : Netherlands 6 pts, France 4 pts, New Zealand 1 pt, Ghana 0 pt.

United States – Paraguay : 6-0

USA bounced back from their defeat against Japan as they hammered Paraguay. Savannah DeMelo and Sophia Smith both played a pivotal role as the midfielder netted a hat-trick while the Sud Ladies Cup 2018 best player scored a brace and delivered an assist. Ashley Sanchez got also her name on the scoresheet.

Standings Group C : Spain 6 pts, United States 3 pts, Japan 3 pts, Paraguay 0 pt.

China – Germany : 0-2

Thanks to their second win in a row, the Germans advance to the quarter-finals. Stefanie Sanders and her teammates made the difference in the first half : Giulia Gwinn has sent a shot into the opposite top corner to give the lead to her side. Few minutes later, the Frankfurt youngster Laura Freigang doubled the lead with a perfect header.

Haiti – Nigeria : 0-1

The Haiti’s hopes of advancing to the next round have ended in a 0-1 loss to Nigeria. The Marc Collat’s players can have some regrets as they have several opportunities to find the net. The captain Nerilia Mondesir created the best chance of her side in the first half but her shot crashed against the crossbar…

Standings Group D : Germany 6 pts, Nigeria 3 pts, China 3 pts, Haiti 0 pt.
