The Sud Ladies Cup is fast approaching ! To wait patiently until the beginning of the competition, let’s take a look at the players who could shine during this first ever edition which will be held from 5th to 10th June. Today, we talk about the German player Sophia Kleinherne.

Just like the men, the Franz Beckenbauer’s country is a central place in the European women football. Every year, players emerge in the youth selections of the Mannschaft. Among them, Sophia Kleinherne. With her teammates, she will aim to lead her team to the final victory during the Festival.

The defender of FFC Frankfurt embodies the new guard of the German women football. She started ten games this season with the Frauen Bundesliga side and she wore the jersey stamped with the eagle since the U17. To her record, a European championship title in this category in 2016 after beating Spain in the final (3-1 pen). Along the competition, she established herself as a key player in the Anouschka Bernhard’s team as the eighteen-year-old started seven of the eight games played by Germany. Her great discipline helping a lot. Since the beginning of her career, she has been booked four times only in 44 games.

The U20 World Cup in the crosshairs

The German youngster does not stop doing so well. She takes part in every game of her national selection during the U17 World Cup organised in Jordania. Unfortunately, the adventure stops prematurely. The Mannschaft is eliminated in quarter-final against Spain, The Gütersloh fomer player pursues her progression with the German U19 that she joined in 2017. She takes part in her first international competition with the Maren Meinert’s group during the Euro held in Norway. Despite an astonishing start during the group phase (three victories in as many games, eleven goals scored and none conceded), the six-time winners of the competition are eliminated by France in semi-final (1-2).

After those last two disappointments, Sophia Kleinherne and her partners are already looking forward to the 2018 World Cup in August. The Sud Ladies Cup comes just at the right moment. This new tournament represents an ideal preparation before this major event organised in France. The FFC Francfort player, who already counts eighteen caps with the German national team since her debut with the young categories, will definitely have a major role to play.
